Bespoke Mattresses

Bespoke mattresses are custom-made for the individual client and can be tailored to requirements in the following ways.

The mattress can be made to virtually any size - not just to the standard sizes generally available.

The spring is selected in relation to the weight of the individual. If required, a double mattress can be sprung differently on either side to suit each of the partners.

The upholstery fillings are selected from a range of materials, balancing the preference of the customer and the experience of Cocketts mattress makers.

Extra central pads are a special adaptation uniquely available from Cocketts. We pad the region of the mattress from below the sleeper's hips to the shoulder blades. This helps support the lumbar region of the back and cushions the hips as they sink into the mattress spring. (see Buying Hints) This adaptation is recommended to help relieve back problems.

Another uncommon but traditional adaptation is the stuffed and stitched edge. The rim of the spring unit is stuffed with wadding which, after covering, is stitched into position to form a firm edge. This allows the edge of the mattress to be sat upon without causing any damage to the mattress. A stuffed and stitched edge also reinforces the spring, allowing it to work more efficiently and thereby last longer than an unstitched mattress.

Medical needs are taken into special consideration when making the mattress.

At Cocketts Mattresses we specailise in constructing unusual Beds and Mattresses to any size, whether the size is an antique size, an American size, or of continential or scandinavian dimensions.

We are also more than happy to make standard UK sizes whether they are king or queen, double or single.

We make handmade to measure replacement mattresses and bases if needed for existing bedsteads whether they are old Four Posters from the sixteenth century, Antique French Beds, Edwardian or Vono bed frames, pine or of the most modern ikea type. Please see our Antique Beds and Mattress page.

At Cocketts because we handmake from the spring unit up to the upholstery cover we can not only do non uk sizes but also non standard shapes. Whether you need cuts outs to fit four poster beds, or want a shaped window seat, a mattress to fit against a curved boat hull or just need a round mattress we can do it at Cocketts Mattresses.

For boats, yachts, narrow boats or crusiers we can fit a made to measure mattress to any bunk regardless of the shape of the hull. We can also do this with any type of mattress from foam through,latex to open coil springs and pocketted springs. You can have as good a mattress on board as you can get for the house, any shape any size.

Caravan mattresses often need to be shorter and narrower than the standard UK mattress sizes Cocketts are happy to make these for you again out of any type of mattressing not just foam. Touring Caravans, campers and motor homes may also need to have tapering mattresses for economy of room, again we can do this all we need are good measurements of a paper template. We are also happy to quote for replacement foam cushioning and can adapt these both for sitting and sleeping.

Bed Bases and Divans

At Cocketts Mattresses we also make bases and divans to any size or shape required, even circular.

Bases for Antique Bedsteads and four posters are a speciality, any size, depth can be made and if needed we can alter the corners on the base to fit inside the bedstead.

We make divans to non standard sizes to fit in alcoves and for unusual sized mattresses.

As standard our bedstead bases and divans are solidly built with pine carcassing and a well supported hardboard top. They last extremely well.
